DMS Travel Time Expansion

Freeway Travel Time Expansion

In 2014, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) expanded travel time information displays on the Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) program to display travel time on 77 DMS. In 2015, they expanded the DMS broadcast times for travel time from peak travel time only to all-day service. Now, travel times are displayed on the DMS from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. The destinations and travel times listed on the DMS will change in accordance with changing traffic conditions. All of the signs are capable of displaying dual panel messages.

Arterial Travel Time

Bell Road Arterial Travel Time

The Valley's arterial travel time program is expanding. The city of Chandler originally implemented their system in 2011 and now the Bell Road corridor in the Northwest Valley is providing arterial travel times as well. The Bell Road corridor uses third party and probe data, as well as integrating freeway detection information, to collect and post travel times on Dynamic Message Signs both on eastbound and westbound directions. This collaborative program between Bell Road jurisdictional partners is led by the Maricopa County Department of Transportation.
